Academy in the City
On Monday April 22nd I landed in Toronto and headed to the Fairmont Royal York where Academy in the City was hosted. I had a day to explore before the Gala on Wednesday April 24th and the Conference on Thursday April 25th.
When I bought my VIP ticket to Academy in the City last October, I really didn’t know what to expect. I had tried to get a ticket for Academy at the Farm two years ago, but it sold out so quickly. What I did know was that I was super excited and nervous to meet Jillian Harris as well as equally nervous to go solo!
The second I met Jillian my nerves (mostly) drifted away, she was so nice and genuinely interested to ask questions about you! Plus we were wearing the same dress…so we are basically besties!
I went solo, but instantly made friends with incredible women who I hope to see again! The gala (Day 1) was absolutely stunning, the details were incredible and I can’t remember the last time that I had so much fun on the dance floor!
We also bought tickets without knowing who would be speaking at the conference (Day 2) and to say that the speakers did not disappoint would be an understatement! As a solo entrepreneur, I have so many ideas but so little time to execute them. However, I left Toronto with so much motivation and inspiration to start levelling up Home Steps!
The Speakers were vulnerable and inspiring! So I wanted to share with you here!
Melissa Leong was a wonderful and funny host, I don't think that they could have found a better fit for the role!
Hina Khan taught us that “you could not think of an idea, if you couldn't have it” and that “when you take a step, your next step will be shown to you”.
Coach Carey taught us that “joy is one of the fastest ways we can shift our energy, often times people confuse joy with happiness but joy is something you give yourself, happiness is something that you can find in almost anything”.
Pauline Brown taught us that “we don’t need more stuff, what we need is to feel more alive!” ~ I feel so connected to this as it’s a perfect way to articulate why I started Home Steps!
Melodie Reynolds taught us that “we need the things that we buy to break the perpetual cycle of overconsumption, it’s not just about choosing the eco-friendly option, it’s not just about choosing a refillable or choosing something that’s better for you and the planet, it’s about choosing to buy less”. ~ I believe this so much, we need to be way more intentional with everything that we bring into our home!
Natalie Dusome taught us to “believe in yourself fiercely” and to “do things that scare you, that’s where the growth is”.
Breanne Allarie taught us to “consistently show up, don’t wait to be perfect”.
Avery Francis taught us to “craft a career that compliments your life”.
Jillian Harris taught us to “lead your business and your life with your heart, take big risks and to pursue joy not approval”.
So make yourself a priority and dream big, I’ll be here dreaming big right alongside you, personally and professionally! ~ Ashley
