When we bought our house two years ago it was only eight years old, the previous owners kept it in great shape! It just wasn’t our personal style, so this year we decided to do a full kitchen renovation and it still doesn’t even feel reel yet!

Here is our kitchen renovation mid-way update! The counters and backsplash were measured the day that the cabinets arrived and the next week we finally had them installed! My husband and I picked all the materials from little swatches and it was really cool to start seeing our vision come together.

This was our kitchen before we started renovations…actually that’s not fully true. We had already painted the walls and upgraded the flooring. The walls and flooring were both previously dark and the dark backsplash, cabinets and unfunctional layout needed to go! We wanted a bright and modern kitchen that was also more functional!

See below for some of the built-in organization that we added!

Obviously not a necessity, but my one little added touch of fun was a potato drawer! We have a very small closet pantry that doesn’t fit any fresh items properly, so this was my solution.

Second, I also wanted to make sure that we made room for a built-in recycling/garbage station. This cleared up space under the sink and also allows us to separate glass and plastic. We additionally no longer need to find the space for a visible garbage can to sit out in our kitchen.

See below for some of the easier to clean materials that we used!

If you look closely you may notice that our backsplash is one slab of quartz! We don’t have any tile in our new kitchen, this equals no grout. No grout to clean was a must, plus I love the simple and clean look!

Although popular, I also knew that I didn’t want shaker cabinets. I wanted easy to clean cabinets and I have found that the crack on the inner edge of shaker cabinets is the perfect spot for impossible to remove crumbs and dust. Especially, when my husband makes pizza dough from scratch and although well intended would often get flour stuck into these little cracks.

I have learnt that I love a clean home, however that I don’t love to clean so I’m always looking for ways to have less cleaning in the first place.

Stay tuned for part 2 of 2 where I share our laundry room, turned laundry room/appliance garage. As well as a sneak peak into all of our drawers and cabinets as I share my favorite organizing products to make our kitchen as functional as possible!
